PS5 Safe Mode: rebuild the database and reinstall system software

Contributed by CircuitScope · Added 30 Oct 2026 · 1 views

Many PS5 software, storage and update errors clear from Safe Mode. Here's how, from least to most drastic.

Lots of PS5 error codes (crashing games, storage and update errors) can be fixed from Safe Mode without opening the console.

Start Safe Mode

  1. Turn the console fully off (not Rest Mode).
  2. Press and hold the power button. Let go after the second beep, about seven seconds later.
  3. Connect the controller with a USB cable and press the PS button.
